There is going to be a Book Fair next week at Yates Primary.  Your child should have a handout with all the information!!!  This is a great way to purchase great literature at reasonable prices.
I told the kids today that I would have a secret word on the blog and if they told me tomorrow, I would give them a piece of candy!  The secret word is: Books.  I will do this often so you will read the blog!! I will try to write in the planners when I need you to look other than Mondays!  Hope you have a wonderful afternoon!

Can you believe we are beginning our third full
week of school? I am enjoying this class so much. They are incredibly smart and
we are already learning so much!

Here are some reminders for the week:
Our fundraiser ends this Thursday.  Please make sure you send in the correct form and monies on that day.
If you are on face book, like the Yates PTO page.  They will keep you informed of all the happenings going on at Yates.
Remember to sign up to bring snacks.  Look under the snack tab and let me know what week you can bring snacks.
Home work will begin after Labor Day.
Remember we will not have school on Monday, Sept. 2nd.

Skills this week:

Whole group reading:  We are continuing our Fairy tale unit.  We will be looking at different character and stories.

Phonics and spelling:  long e sound spelled different ways. The spelling words are listed under the spelling tab and they are written in the planner.

Language:  Sentences

Math:  place value; reading and writing numbers to 1000; reviewing addition and subtraction facts

Social studies:  community helpers

I just realized that my post did not publish for some reason! (Probably because I am not used to blogs!)  The last post is all the reminders and skills I posted this afternoon.  Sorry for the delay.

Please remember to check and sign your child's planner each day.  They earn "Lunch Bunch" on Fridays by:
        1.  Staying on blue or green all week.
        2.  Having the planner signed every day.
        3.  Coloring in the correct behavior color every day.
All three must be met before they can have "Lunch Bunch".

I sent home papers today. I will send home papers every Monday.  Please look over each week. Don't worry if there are some weeks we don't have many worksheets because we do lots of hands on work without worksheets.  Be assured your child is learning!

I have several things to share with you this week:

Remember Thursday  (Aug. 22) is picture day.  I must have the money if you want to order prints. Everyone will get their pictures made at this time for the yearbook.

Please take a minute and look at the snack schedule.  We don't have anyone signed up for snacks this week.  PLEASE sign up for a week.

I have almost everyone's email address. If you have not sent an address in, please do so!  If you were here at Parent Night, you signed the form.

We are having an important parent meeting here at Yates. Emily Foggin will be speaking about our new Common Core Standards. It will be a very informative meeting. It will be held Thursday, August 22 beginning at 6PM.  It should last about an hour.

Skills this week:
Reading:  We will begin an unit on Fairy Tales.  We will cover several different comprehension skills.
Spelling and phonics:  long a sound spelled different ways
Language Arts: sentences
Math:  place value
Social Studies:  Communities

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!!

Welcome to our blog!  I hope this site will keep you informed of all our class happenings!  I will post every Monday for sure, and some days in between.

In the past I have sent a newsletter home on Mondays , but this will take the place of a hard copy.
We have had a wonderful first week of second grade.  I am so impressed with each student in the class. I really think this is going to be the smartest and the best class at Yates!

Thank you for the great turnout for Parent Night. If you did not get to come, I am sending home the packet with important information.  As I said Thursday night, my computer has crashed and can't get to some of my forms! I will send home as soon as I can get to them.  Keep your fingers crossed, for I really miss my computer. So much of my teaching stuff is stored there!

We will  begin our spelling this week.  Your child has written spelling words in the planner. The words will also be under the spelling tab on the blog. We will have a test on Friday. Please help your child work on the words this week.  Our skill will be long vowel sounds spelled with an e at the end.
In math we are working on place value.
We will look at hundreds, tens and ones.
Once again, I am sooooo happy that I have your child in my class. I am looking forward to a great year!
