If you have not returned the progress report, please do so this week.

Please make sure you sign the planner each day. The students have to have the planner signed, behavior square colored in and homework written in the planner every day in order to have "lunch bunch" on Fridays.

I have scheduled the conferences with parents who have returned the forms.  I am sending home another form today with the time slots I have left.
If you have returned the form, you should get a note with your conference time.

Don't forget OPEN HOUSE on Thursday!!


Skills for the week:
Reading:  Our comprehension skills this week will be: questions about the story, vocabulary, and sequencing the story.  We will use the book, Johnny Appleseed. 
We will also compare different versions of the book.

Math:  We will finish up our place value unit this week. We will be reviewing numbers to 1000, ordering and comparing numbers, and adding tens and ones.

Phonics:  "ch" sound at the end of words (spelled ch or tch)

Language:  nouns (plural and possessive)

The secret word this week is APPLES.     Please have your child write it in their planner.

Science:  apples and fall

 
REMINDERS
I sent home progress reports today in the take home binder. Please sign and return tomorrow.  If you would like a conference please indicate on the progress report.

We will have scheduled parent conferences on Tuesday, October 15 and Thursday October 24. I will send home a note later this week for you to sign up.

Don't forget Open House next Thursday (Sept 26). The kids are working really hard to show off their work and the room.  PLEASE COME!!  The PTO is sponsoring a bake sale so there will be lots of goodies to buy!  If you can make something to contribute to the sale, please send it in Thursday morning.  THANKS!

Our first field trip will be Friday, Sept. 27!! We are taking a trip around the town. There is a permission slip in the binder today.  I must have a signed slip before your child allowed to go.  Please return as soon as possible. We will not be taking chaperones this field trip.

SKILLS FOR THE WEEK
Reading:  Our book for the week is Elmer by David McKee. We are talking about characters, setting,  and plot.
Math:  place value, comparing numbers and doubles in adding
Spelling:  long vowel u (see lists under spelling tab.) There are some students that will be on the A list (th sound).  Words are also written in the planner.
Language and writing:  nouns, and a personal narrative
Science:  matter (solid, liquid, and gases)
 
I am so sorry that there was not a post yesterday! I could not get my computer at home to work, so I had to wait until today.
I sent home a note yesterday with the blog information.  I did not get any notes asking for hard copies, so I am assuming everyone is able to get to the blog. 
We will be having a special program about the flag and the Star Spangled Banner on Friday morning.  Ms. Weaver is asking everyone to wear red, white, and blue.

Our skills for the week:
Reading:  We will finish up our fairy tale unit with Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Language:  different types of sentences.
Math:  comparing and ordering numbers.
Science:  Matter

Please check your child's planner for this week's spelling list. Not everyone is on the same list this week, so make sure you are studying the right  words.

Reading groups are going great!!  PLEASE read with your child every night and make sure the book is returned the next day!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I went to South Carolina to visit my son and his family.  My other son and his family were there too! We don't get together very often, so I cherish the times when we do.
We are settling in and getting a routine going. 
We began reading groups today, so look for small reading books every day. Please make time to read with your child every day. I thought this chart was interesting. It makes you stop and think!
I have decided to wait for homework packets.  This week they should study their spelling words and read the reading group book. Practice writing good sentences with the spelling words. When you read the book, ask your child questions about the story. We are working on sequencing in reading groups this week.  Ask them to retell the story in order.
